Aurland Watkins

Graduate Student
(with R. Seshadri and S. Wilson)

Education

B.A. in chemistry from Wellesley College (2020)

Bio

Aury grew up in Boston, Germany, and Tacoma before attending Wellesley College where she received her bachelor's degree in chemistry. Her undergraduate research was in the field of astrochemistry, specifically studying the formation mechanisms for prebiotic molecules in outer space. In 2020, she joined the Seshadri group in the Materials department at UCSB.

Research

Aury's research centers on identifying and characterizing topological superconductors, a class of materials with promising applications for fault-tolerant quantum computing. She uses first-principles computational techniques to study the electronic behavior and topological properties of these systems.
